This Week in Social Media: The Biggest Updates You Should Actually Care About

Let’s be honest: trying to keep up with every change on social media is exhausting. New features drop out of nowhere, platforms silently tweak algorithms, and if you blink too long, you miss something that could’ve helped your business or brand grow.

That’s exactly why I’m putting these weekly updates together — not to overwhelm you, but to give you a clear, real-person breakdown of what’s actually changing and what’s worth paying attention to. So here’s what’s been happening this past week across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Threads, Pinterest, and YouTube — and what it means for you.

Instagram

Instagram is leaning more into giving creators control. Right now, they’re testing a feature that would let you pin a specific slide within a carousel post. That means if your best photo or video is in the middle of a multi-post, you can choose to make that the first thing people see.

For now, you can already pin up to three posts to the top of your profile grid, so make sure to take advantage of that if you haven’t yet — especially for services, testimonials, or content you want people to see first.

TikTok

If you’ve noticed your product or promo videos aren’t performing as well lately, you’re not alone. TikTok is now prioritizing paid visibility when it comes to TikTok Shop. Organic reach isn’t gone, but it’s not what it used to be. So if you’re selling anything — even services — you’ll likely need to pair content with some ad spend to stay visible.

Also, TikTok is preparing for a big shift in the U.S. There’s talk of a new version of the app launching as early as September, which could separate the U.S. TikTok experience entirely. Not much to act on yet, but definitely something to keep in mind if TikTok is part of your marketing strategy.

Threads

Threads has officially made keyword search available everywhere. That means people can finally find your content based on the words you’re using, not just replies or who follows who. If you like to write or share quick thoughts, this is your time to shine.

They’ve also added simple search filters, like sorting by date or searching posts from specific profiles. It’s a small but really helpful update if you’re trying to use Threads more intentionally.

Pinterest

Pinterest now lets you schedule your own Pins right from the app. No more needing a third-party tool or logging into a desktop planner — you can plan and post on the go.

This is huge if you create evergreen content, blog posts, or even wedding inspiration boards. It’s one of the most underrated platforms out there for driving website traffic, especially for creatives.

YouTube

YouTube has started expanding Community Posts, making it easier to engage with your audience in-between videos. These are simple updates and announcements you can post directly on your channel without needing to upload a video.

They’ve also started pushing “remix” features more — think split-screen or reply-style Shorts. If you’re not making Shorts yet, now’s the time to start experimenting with it.

So What Should You Actually Do with All This?

Here's what I’d focus on this week:

  • Pin your most important Instagram posts — especially if you offer services.

  • If you’re selling on TikTok, consider testing small-budget ads alongside organic content.

  • Use keyword-rich posts on Threads now that they’re searchable.

  • Take advantage of Pinterest’s native scheduler to build consistent traffic.

  • Test a YouTube Community Post — or start posting Shorts if you haven’t yet.

You don’t have to be on every platform, but staying aware of what’s changing helps you show up smarter — not harder. I’ll keep breaking it down weekly so you don’t have to stress about missing something important.
